Since 1969, Golden Steer Steakhouse has been a beloved Chicago institution known for its USDA Prime steaks, ribs, seafood, and iconic French Onion Soup, serving generations of families celebrating everything from special occasions to simple cravings; with a rich history that includes its origins as a 1930s Irish pub and a 1950s gangster hangout, the restaurant retains its classic atmosphere, has been featured on local TV, and is now run by longtime bartender-turned-owner Elba Caragher, supported by a dedicated staff—many with over 20 years of service—who warmly welcome both new guests and returning regulars to relive cherished memories.
This place is awesome old school steak house❤️ est 1969 Love the soup, salad and potato with the dinner entree! Had baked clams, de longhe mushrooms, and fried giant shrimp for apps. The prime rib was amazing!
Great place to eat in Forest Park. Food is served with generous portions. Dinners run from 40-50 dollars. It’s comparable to eating at an old time Supper Club. Prime Rib is enormous. Small (nine stools) bar is also available if U want to come solo or enjoy a cocktail.
We had our monthly dinner club here and were very pleased we tried this!! Delicious food. Great service. Reasonable prices for the food we got! And the ambiance was old school great- Highly recommend!!
Fantastic food and service. French onion soup was delicious. Big ribeye steak and potato with salad. You cannot beat this value! Will be back and definitely recommend. Great music too
This is our absolute FAVORITE steakhouse in the Chicago area. It has loyal local customer base and has an old school laid back vibe. The French Onion soup is to die for. The dinner salads come on chilled plates and the steaks are perfection. The two chefs amazingly move around one another in a tiny open kitchen to whip up their magic in the back corner of the dining room.
My partner and I came here for w celebratory dinner, and we left beyond satisfied! He got the filet mignon and I got the Takis medallion and both dishes were flavorful, the meat was super juicy and tender, and the sides were great accompaniments. And our margaritas? Delicious! Will definitely be back!
